ОБРАТНАЯ ПЕРСПЕКТИВА
REVERSE PERSPECTIVE

Internationally acclaimed choreographer Jonah Bokaer directs and choreographs a full-length theatrical dance production, set to the music by one of today’s most sought after and widely performed composers of her generation, Polina Nazaykinskava.

The project unites live performances with Vitaly Vatulya and Maria Nemtsova (VitaDuo), an award-winning, classically-trained Saxophone-Piano virtuoso duo, who are also founders of the charitable Music for Peace Project.

In this production, their music appears live – as well as the choreographed stagings of the musicians, in an original work of devised theatre, with score by Polina Nazaykinskaya.

Thematically, the piece explores the journey of an artist, in all its depth and complexity, and highlights the tensions between an inner freedom and safety, adventure and security, art and state – reflecting on our civil society today.

Vitaly Vatulya is a successful international solo and chamber musician with a lifelong passion for dance. For years, he has been longing to combine his two passions – saxophone and dance – in one integrated performance staging. As a result of his recent meeting with Bokaer, his dream is finally coming true, and Bokaer also uncovers his background as an international award-winning young dancer from Crimea.

This project is a collaboration between Jonah Bokaer Choreography and Momentum Artists.

Following three years of creative development work, it was first presented at the Hudson Eye – Edition #2 on August 30, 2020, thanks to the visionary support from Trust for Mutual Understanding. Reverse Perspective became one of the very few international performing arts projects being realized and presented amidst the global COVID-19 pandemic, with full venue, audience and artists safety procedures in place. Please watch a six minute excerpt here.
